SUMMARY:Online learning event: Demystifying Low Literacy
DESCRIPTION:(presented by Literacy Unlimited / Family Life Centre)\nFebruary 27\, 1:30 to 2:30 pm \nPlease advertise this free info session far and wide! It’s for church staff\, clergy\, lay leaders\, volunteers and\, in fact\, anyone! Please feel free to share it with any organizations with whom your church partners. The session is on Zoom to be easily accessible to all\, and it’s free. \nWhen I met with Literacy Unlimited to plan this\, I was astounded to learn that people who do not read or write well avoid any situation where they might feel `less than’ — and that there are simple ways we\, as churches\, can be more equitable and welcoming. It was eye-opening. \nEveryone knows someone who lives with low literacy — even if they keep it well hidden. Anything we can do in our church programmes\, activities\, worship and communications to make them feel comfortable is a worthwhile investment of time. \n– shared by Elizabeth Chown-Lafrenière\, Family Life Centre  \nDownload poster: 2024-02-27 Demystifying Low Literacy-FLC\nLearn more / register: familylifecentre@gmail.com

SUMMARY:Sunday School Share and Swap (First Third Ministries)
DESCRIPTION:We put Sunday School in the title\, because it allowed us to make a fun alliteration\, but this is for all your congregational children ministry\, whether or not you have a formal Sunday School. \nThe idea is simple: come on a zoom meeting at lunch time on Wednesday June 12th and share and swap ideas about lectionary-based children friendly church experiences for the season of creation. It can be a Sunday School lesson\, a story for worship\, a craft\, a game\, you name it! \nThe goal is to better equip ministers\, lay staff\, and volunteers with creative ideas to minister to the children in our communities of faith. \nThis project is still in the development stage. We are hoping to have a session like this for every liturgical season and develop an accessible regional resource for children ministry. \nNo registration needed: just show up with an open mind and a willingness to share. \nJoin Zoom Meeting: https://us06web.zoom.us/j/81254484699 \nMeeting ID: 812 5448 4699

SUMMARY:Holding a vision for the future: A gathering of United Church leadership from every congregation
DESCRIPTION:Conseil régional Nakonha:ka Regional Council has decided to hold two gatherings of congregational leaders and ministry personnel to discuss our future as the United Church of Canada\, for the first time ever in our Region. The one-day events will take place on October 17th\, 2025 at Beaconsfield United Church (202 Woodside Rd\, Beaconsfield) and on October 18th\, 2025 at Lennoxville United Church (6 Rue Church\, Sherbrooke). Please choose whichever location and date is most convenient for you. October 17th will be led by Rev. Éric Hébert-Daly\, our Executive Minister\, and Dr. Esther Guillén\, our Community of Faith Support Minister. October 18th will be led by Esther Guillén and Royal Orr\, chair of the region’s Finance & Extension Board and a member of the Towards 2035 Vision Keeper Team. \nAt this full-day event\, participants will be given the opportunity to hear about the state of the church today\, where we would be in ten years if the trajectory were to continue\, and how we might work collaboratively to impact and shape that future. \nThe events will take place 9:30am to 4pm on their respective dates. Lunch will be provided at no cost. Vegetarian and gluten-free options will be available\, but you may decide to bring your lunch if you have more specific needs. Please note that registration to include lunch will close on October 5. \nWe encourage members of your decision-making body (Church Council or Board) to attend. Chairs and Presidents of congregations and pastoral charges\, as well as key decision-makers in your community of faith are key players in the future of the church. This is why we are asking you to take this time out of your schedules to come and reflect together how we move forward. \nSince this could be the largest gathering of our region in its history\, registration will help us plan and prepare\, including meals and group facilitation. Please register here. \nLooking forward to working with you in this new way so that we may all shape our future intentionally and with discernment. \nBlessings\, \n\n\n\n\nRev. Éric Hébert-Daly\nRegional Executive Minister\n\nDr. Esther Guillén\nCommunity of Faith Support Minister
