SUMMARY:Webinar: Changemaking in Bilingual Places with the Tamarack Institute
DESCRIPTION:The purpose of this webinar is to invite people who run NGOs or lead justice struggles in bilingual communities who need to navigate two sociolinguistic communities simultaneously so that everyone moves forward together. What are the challenges they face? What are the strengths of operating in a bilingual community? How has it engaged both communities at their distinct starting points?  Multilingual community engagement requires much more than translation and interpretation. This webinar aims to explore these questions and more to launch into a tool to support true multilingual community engagement. This webinar is taking place in French with simultaneous interpretation into English. \nRead more and register!

SUMMARY:ICHRP Canada National Conference: Resist State Terror\, stand for People’s Rights in the Philippines
DESCRIPTION:Get ready for an electrifying event as Beaconsfield Initiative\, a grassroots movement of the progressive United Church of Canada and ICHRP-Canada\, proudly announce their National Conference: Resist State Terror\, stand for People’s Rights in the Philippines at St Columba House\, 2365 Grand Trunk Street\, in the vibrant city of Montréal\, Québec\, from May 3-5\, 2024! \nPrepare for a ground-breaking gathering where human rights activists and believers from every corner of Canada unite to delve into the crucial connection between human rights in Canada and the Philippines. Our mission? To arm organizations\, National Church institutions\, and individuals with the resources needed to amplify our collective voice for human rights. \nHuman rights abuses don’t recognize borders\, and Canada’s Indo-Pacific Strategy\, including bolstering military ties with nations like the Philippines\, is a red flag; with Canada’s recent pact on security cooperation\, complicity in the Philippines’ human rights quagmire looms larger. \nBut that’s not all. Canadian corporations’ involvement in labour exploitation and resource plundering is exacerbating the Philippine crisis\, hitting the most vulnerable hardest. The numbers are chilling—799 political prisoners\, hundreds of extrajudicial killings\, attacks against HR activists\, Church People\, and journalists —the world is taking notice of the increasingly constricted democratic space\, the Philippine State using the justice system as a tool to target leftist activist groups. \nBut fear not! Our conference isn’t just about talk; it’s action-packed with riveting panel discussions\, skill-boosting workshops\, and star-studded keynotes featuring luminaries like former congressman Attorney Neri Colmenares\, the tireless human rights crusader\, and Amirah Lidasan\, the dynamic co-chair of Sandugo – Movement of Moro and Indigenous Peoples for Self-Determination. \nAnd the excitement doesn’t stop there! Pre-conference (May 2nd)\, including an enthralling colloquium in collaboration with the Université de Montréal\, under the leadership of the eminent professor Dr Dominique Caouette\, Ph. D. in Government\, set the stage for a whirlwind of inspiration. \nICHRP Canada is part of a global movement striving for justice in the Philippines. Join us in our mission to champion peace and justice while spotlighting the Philippines’ human rights travails. \nLet’s not just talk the talk; let’s walk it together. Join us as we raise our voices in solidarity for justice and freedom for all! \nPlease contact Patricia Lisson (Rev. Dr.) at 514-241-9036 if you need information. \nSee you in Beautiful Montréal!!! \nRegistration Link: ichrpcanada.org/register
