Camp Cosmos<\/b><\/p>\n

Times flies when you are having fun as that old adage goes – and the weeks at Camp Cosmos have certainly flown by!\u00a0 Hard to believe we are approaching the end of our 2024 season.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

Quel \u00e9t\u00e9 formidable!\u00a0 Des aventures, des d\u00e9couvertes, des apprentissages nouveaux et surtout \u2013 beaucoup de divertissement.<\/span><\/p>\n

We were happy to be able to welcome five children with special needs this summer and hope to increase that number next year as there is always a wait list. Some of the Ukrainian families were back again with us\u00a0 this year as well as new campers making their d\u00e9but at Camp Cosmos.<\/span><\/p>\n

Solidarity Dialogues\u00a0 –\u00a0 <\/b>Dialogues de solidarit\u00e9<\/b><\/p>\n

This past month, MCM and St. James joined 17 other community leaders for an intensive 4-day training on facilitating dialogue among communities experiencing deep-rooted conflict. This innovative program is sponsored by our close partner <\/span>PLEDJ.\u00a0<\/span><\/a><\/p>\n

For four days, the community leaders exchanged, questioned, laughed, and learned together. Coming from diverse professional and personal backgrounds, the participants found common ground and constructed meaningful connections and understandings. A key element of the Solidarity Dialogues is experiential learning. As community leaders became further equipped with knowledge and tools to facilitate constructive dialogue among groups in conflict, they also underwent this dialogue process themselves.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

\u00c0 une \u00e9poque o\u00f9 nos communaut\u00e9s, nos lieux de travail et nos campus sont de plus en plus tendus et polaris\u00e9s, il est n\u00e9cessaire de faire un effort pour s’engager les uns avec les autres et ne pas perdre de vue l’humanit\u00e9 de chacun. Comme l’a d\u00e9montr\u00e9 cette formation pilote sur les dialogues de solidarit\u00e9, le dialogue n’est souvent pas un processus confortable, mais il est essentiel pour jeter des ponts et favoriser la compr\u00e9hension entre des communaut\u00e9s diverses et parfois divis\u00e9es. Avec le soutien du PLEDJ, les dirigeants communautaires vont \u00e9laborer et mettre en \u0153uvre leurs propres initiatives de dialogue communautaire afin de poursuivre ce mouvement de r\u00e9conciliation et de r\u00e9tablissement de la paix entre les communaut\u00e9s.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

Solutions Justes<\/b><\/p>\n

As part of our 20<\/span>th<\/span> anniversary celebration for the Just Solutions legal clinic this year, and together with our partners at <\/span>St. James United<\/span><\/i> and the <\/span>Peace and Social Harmony Network,<\/span><\/i> we are hosting a conversation on the idea of holistic justice with MCM supervising lawyer Rick Goldman, board chair and refugee lawyer Julia Green, and MCM Assistant Director (lawyer & social worker) Anwar Alhjooj.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

Selwyn at MCM<\/strong><\/p>

\"Students \"Students<\/p>

MCM hosted a group of Grade 11 students from Selwyn House in April as part of the school\u2019s Community Action Program.\u00a0 A lively discussion occurred between the MCM team about our work with migrants, and the culturally diverse group of students who shared stories of their families and ancestors. Jewish and Muslim perspectives were also exchanged on the conflict in the Middle East. At morning`s end we took the group on a tour of St. James sanctuary, mentioning the many famous personalities who have spoken there such as British feminist Emmeline Pankhurst and civil rights leader Coretta Scott King. \u00a0We finished off in the basement where the old bowling alley, installed to entertain the troops before shipping out during WW2, was a big hit!<\/p>

20th<\/sup> anniversary of MCM`s Just Solutions Legal Clinic<\/strong><\/p>

Thanks to the hard work and dedication of JS staffers, students and volunteers over the past 2 decades, several thousand men, women and children are now living in safety in Canada.<\/p>
