Congratulations to 2 MCM board members:<\/span><\/p>\n

Ade Sunday Akintayo<\/b> who was named a 2024 <\/span>CBC BLACK CHANGEMAKER.<\/span><\/a> This award celebrates and amplifies the voices of black individuals from diverse fields. In addition to his work on the MCM board, Ade is involved with the Beaconsfield United and Riverside United refugee integration and support programs as well as studying for ordained ministry – and publishing his first book! Ade\u2019s tireless work on behalf of newcomers is inspiring and impressive!\u00a0 ORIRE !!!<\/span><\/p>\n

And\u2026<\/span><\/p>\n

Dr. Nicole Ives<\/b>, director of the McGill School of Social Work, received the Governor General\u2019s <\/span>MERITORIOUS SERVICE DECORATION <\/span><\/a>\u00a0for her efforts establishing\u00a0 <\/span>Indigenous Access McGill (IAM)<\/span><\/i>\u00a0 that has supported approximately 40 graduates in recent years. In addition, 225 social work and law students participate in the annual <\/span>Indigenous Summer Field School<\/span><\/i> in Kanhawake, sponsored by<\/span> IAM<\/span><\/i>. Nicole, is a ground breaker and role model for the students, volunteers and staff at MCM and, of course, for the wider community.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

Que de belles r\u00e9compenses – et bien m\u00e9rit\u00e9es – pour ces deux membres du conseil d\u2019administration qui travaillent sans rel\u00e2che afin d\u2019am\u00e9liorer les conditions de vie, de travail et d\u2019\u00e9tudes pour des nouveaux arrivants et des autochtones. POLLINATORS SEWING BEE \u2013 <\/b>CERCLE DE COUTURE<\/b><\/b><\/h2>\n

Last August, the <\/span>Pollinators Sewing Bee<\/span><\/i> gathered for a friendly conversation, for fellowship after the summer break, and to acquire basic knowledge of Palestinian embroidery (tatreez (\u0627\u0644\u062a\u0637\u064e\u0631\u0652\u064a\u0632). The participants enjoyed the workshop, engaging in meaningful conversations, sharing experiences, and creating new connections as they learned the traditional Palestinian art of cross-stitching.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

Nous remercions notre invit\u00e9e sp\u00e9ciale, Neem Al Sana, qui a partag\u00e9 son expertise et talent, ainsi que les participantes enthousiastes qui ont brav\u00e9 une pluie diluvienne afin d\u2019\u00eatre pr\u00e9sentes! Camp Cosmos<\/b><\/h2>\n

A successful first season at our new location of <\/span>Selwyn House<\/b> in Westmount ended in early August after 6 weeks of summer fun, music, sports,art and exploration of the city and all the nature it has to offer. Thanks to support from the<\/span> regional<\/span> Rosemary Lambie Fund<\/b>, we were able to begin a conversation pre camp with <\/span>Indigenous Access McGill<\/span><\/i> and Ben Geboe, Yankton Sioux who participated in a spring MCM Interfaith event. Following these consultations, our first <\/span>CC Indigenous Program<\/b> included:<\/span> a de-colonial training workshop for staff with community member & Concordia faculty Carole Brazeau; a visit to the McCord museum \u00ab\u00a0Indigenous Voices of Today\u00a0\u00bb Exhibition,\u00a0 and an Indigenous Awareness workshop with Wapikoni mobile. We hope to expand on this initial edition next year.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

Environ 60 campeurs dont 5 ayant des besoins sp\u00e9ciaux, des familles de nouveaux arrivants, nos amis Ukrainians de retour, et des petits francos et anglos d\u2019ici, ont fait connaissance les uns avec les autres dans un cadre enchanteur, \u00e9ducatif et divertissant. Les amiti\u00e9s qui dureront dans certains cas toute une vie!\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

Selwyn at MCM<\/strong><\/p>

\"Students \"Students<\/p>

MCM hosted a group of Grade 11 students from Selwyn House in April as part of the school\u2019s Community Action Program.\u00a0 A lively discussion occurred between the MCM team about our work with migrants, and the culturally diverse group of students who shared stories of their families and ancestors. Jewish and Muslim perspectives were also exchanged on the conflict in the Middle East. At morning`s end we took the group on a tour of St. James sanctuary, mentioning the many famous personalities who have spoken there such as British feminist Emmeline Pankhurst and civil rights leader Coretta Scott King. \u00a0We finished off in the basement where the old bowling alley, installed to entertain the troops before shipping out during WW2, was a big hit!<\/p>

20th<\/sup> anniversary of MCM`s Just Solutions Legal Clinic<\/strong><\/p>

Thanks to the hard work and dedication of JS staffers, students and volunteers over the past 2 decades, several thousand men, women and children are now living in safety in Canada.<\/p>
