Interfaith Iftar a Resounding Success!
Our final of 3 Iftars we organized this Ramadan season together with St. James United, drew 100+ participants on April 8th from the Muslim, Jewish, Christian faiths and wider community.
Un repas délicieux a été préparé par notre collectif de traiteur Women Weaving their Dreams/Vers un souffle nouveau et servit par un groupe enthousiaste de jeunes ados bénévoles qui sont des nouveaux arrivants.
Plusieurs invités présents ce soir-là avaient perdu des membres de leurs familles et des ami(e)s proches dans le conflit au Moyen Orient et se soucient pour ceux et celles toujours en danger. Leur volonté de se réunir malgré des différences politiques et religieuses nous a tous inspirés.
Our special guest, Montreal neurologist Dr. Aimen Moussady, encouraged us to tap into the solidarity present that evening as we work for peace here in Montreal and in Canada.

Merci – Au Revoir – Bonne Chance
We said farewell to two exceptional McGill social work interns at a community lunch in early April. Heartfelt words of gratitude were expressed by the entire MCM team to Delphine Brisson and Marie-Soleil Garzon for 8 months of excellent work, dedication and compassion. MCM staffer Louise Oliver, currently on mat leave, made a surprise visit with her adorable 3 month-old Maddy to the delight of all.
Nous souhaitons bonne chance à Delphine et Marie-Soleil pour le prochain chapitre à Montréal et au Chile! Et nous avons hâte de les revoir parmi nous pour nous raconter leurs aventures.

Metropolis bleu
In the midst of the Syrian refugee crises in 2016, MCM organized a panel discussion of Syrian business and community leaders at the international literary festival Métropolis Bleu. The room was overflowing. Since that time, we have been a close partner with Blue Met, creating a venue for newcomer talent while raising awareness in the larger community of the many contributions they are already making. This year, once again, we have a very special program showcasing 3 artists from our Community of Friends: Hend Ahmed from Sudan, Dina Basouri from Egypt and Samar Wakele from Palestine.
Check out the 2024 Blue Met program that includes a First Nation’s Literary Prize and a Planet Literature Prize among other exciting events.
Les tableaux de Hend Ahmed qui seront présentés au Bleu Met cette année ont été exposés lors d’un vernissage à St. James pendant 3 jours en décembre dernier, attirant une grande foule. Et également au CBC Holiday Market.
Si vous n’êtes jamais allé à ce festival littéraire de grand renom, c’est le temps de faire connaissance car Métropolis Bleu est un bijoux culturel à Montréal.
Camp Cosmos has a new home!
With camping season just around the corner, we are pleased to announce that Camp Cosmos will be hosted at Selwyn House in Westmount. This historical school (founded in 1908) will also be sending a group of grade 11 students to visit MCM at the end of the month to learn about our work with refugees as part of their community outreach program.
Cosmos est un camp multi-culturel et écologique desservant des enfants nés au Canada ainsi que ceux et celles provenant de familles réfugiées. En 2016-17, nous avons accueilli des enfants syriens et en 2022-23 des enfants Ukrainiens. Le partage de la culture amérindienne avec nos partenaires autochtones joue également un rôle clé dans nos activités estivales. Nos plus grands remerciements au Fond Rosemary Lambie pour ce volet de notre programmation cette année.
New Additions to the MCM Team
We were delighted to welcome a new staffer and contractual to the team this month.
Claudia Limoli Cubria
Claudia has been hired thanks to a 2-year grant from the federal government as our new Legal Information Worker with Anglophone Specialization. Claudia speaks English, French, Spanish, Italian and Mandarin! She has a Masters from Rije Universiteit Amsterdam, Faculty of Law, with her research focus on migrant smuggling and human trafficking on the Colombian-Venezuelan border.

Très connu et apprécié dans la Région Nakonha:ka, Norman mettra sa longue expérience en tant que producteur de télé, chanteur professionnel, enseignant et aumônier au service de 2 nouveaux projets prometteurs à la MCM :

Roger Snelling phase 2 projet pilote qui se penchera sur le contexte de la population aînée 2SLGBTQI+ et de l’ Aide médicale à mourir (AMM).
