Le Devoir, a Quebec news agency, recently created a video (in French) highlighting one of Conseil régional Nakonha:ka Regional Council’s candidates for ministry, Raphaël Pérusse, also known as Sophia III.
In this video, Raphaël shares a story of faith, authenticity and inclusivity in the context of the affirming values of the United Church of Canada. Leading worship in drag at Beaconsfield United Church during Pride Month is just one of many possible ways of healing historic and ongoing divisions between religious traditions and the LGBTQ2S+ community.
Stories like this one help pave the way as we begin to explore the possibility of officially becoming an Affirming Regional Council; we hope to receive and share other stories to highlight why this is an important initiative for us to undertake together. Anyone interested in joining this effort, in preparation for the formal request and in moving the process forward, is asked to contact David-Roger Gagnon, staff person responsible for Networks and Clusters.
