The Finance and Extension Board of Conseil régional Nakonha:ka Regional Council is responsible for three bursary funds provided by the Hugh Duncan Estate, by the Institut Français Évangélique (Fondation I.F.E.), and by the St. John’s Hall Bursary Fund (SJHBF). Applicants apply for either the Hugh Duncan Bursary or the I.F.E. Bursary. For those students who have high travel costs within Québec please indicate this on your application and the St. John’s Hall Bursary (SJHBF) may be awarded to Hugh Duncan bursary or I.F.E. bursary recipients.
The bursaries are available to active members in congregations of Conseil régional Nakonha:ka Regional Council who are registered as students in universities and other post-secondary institutions; preference is given to those registered in Canadian institutions.
Communities of faith are encouraged to download and share information with prospective applicants (see links at bottom of page)
Hugh Duncan Bursary
In accordance with the criteria set out by Dr. Duncan, financial assistance may be offered each year to full-time university students who are members of a United Church community of faith in the Conseil régional Nakonha:ka Regional Council. The amount of the award depends on the number of applicants. It will not exceed 2,000 $ and can be attributed 2 times to the same person.
Institut Français Évangélique (I.F.E.) Bursary
The Foundation I.F.E. may offer up to $1,000 per person to full- or part‑time university students at college (CEGEP) level or part‑time university students, who are also members of a United Church community of faith in the Conseil régional Nakonha:ka Regional Council.
St. John’s Hall Bursary (travel)
The St. John’s Hall Bursary Fund makes available bursaries to commemorate the St. John’s Hall which was used for the education of protestant children in Québec City. The Hall was sold and the funds from the sale are used for bursaries of students who have high travel costs for their studies. Applicants do not apply for this bursary; instead, it is awarded by the Committee to those students awarded a Hugh Duncan bursary or an I.F.E. Bursary. Applicants should note high travel costs within Québec in their application.
