Camp Cosmos
Times flies when you are having fun as that old adage goes – and the weeks at Camp Cosmos have certainly flown by! Hard to believe we are approaching the end of our 2024 season.

We were happy to be able to welcome five children with special needs this summer and hope to increase that number next year as there is always a wait list. Some of the Ukrainian families were back again with us this year as well as new campers making their début at Camp Cosmos.

Solidarity Dialogues – Dialogues de solidarité
This past month, MCM and St. James joined 17 other community leaders for an intensive 4-day training on facilitating dialogue among communities experiencing deep-rooted conflict. This innovative program is sponsored by our close partner PLEDJ.
For four days, the community leaders exchanged, questioned, laughed, and learned together. Coming from diverse professional and personal backgrounds, the participants found common ground and constructed meaningful connections and understandings. A key element of the Solidarity Dialogues is experiential learning. As community leaders became further equipped with knowledge and tools to facilitate constructive dialogue among groups in conflict, they also underwent this dialogue process themselves.
À une époque où nos communautés, nos lieux de travail et nos campus sont de plus en plus tendus et polarisés, il est nécessaire de faire un effort pour s’engager les uns avec les autres et ne pas perdre de vue l’humanité de chacun. Comme l’a démontré cette formation pilote sur les dialogues de solidarité, le dialogue n’est souvent pas un processus confortable, mais il est essentiel pour jeter des ponts et favoriser la compréhension entre des communautés diverses et parfois divisées. Avec le soutien du PLEDJ, les dirigeants communautaires vont élaborer et mettre en œuvre leurs propres initiatives de dialogue communautaire afin de poursuivre ce mouvement de réconciliation et de rétablissement de la paix entre les communautés.

As part of our 20th anniversary celebration for the Just Solutions legal clinic this year, and together with our partners at St. James United and the Peace and Social Harmony Network, we are hosting a conversation on the idea of holistic justice with MCM supervising lawyer Rick Goldman, board chair and refugee lawyer Julia Green, and MCM Assistant Director (lawyer & social worker) Anwar Alhjooj.
